Denture Care Instructions
Congratulations on your new appliance! Below you’ll find helpful information on how to care for your new smile and keep your denture clean, comfortable, and long-lasting.
Getting Started
- Handle with care
Dentures are breakable. Always be mindful when inserting or removing them—especially over hard surfaces like sinks or countertops. - Try to use without adhesive at first
It takes time to adjust, but your mouth muscles will learn to support the denture for speaking and chewing. Give yourself timeas you adapt. - Chew evenly
When eating, place food on both sides of your mouth to help balance the dentures and keep them more stable. - If using adhesive
Be sure to remove it at night following the instructions on the product packaging.
Daily Cleaning
- Brush your denture twice a day
Once in the morning and again before bed. Use the large brush provided (or a similar one) with either gentle soap or toothpaste. - Soak overnight
Always store your denture in a cup of water while you sleep to prevent drying out. You may add a denture-cleaning tablet (like Efferdent) to help reduce bacteria and odor. - Clean your mouth too
Use a soft brush or washcloth to clean your gums daily. Don’t forget to brush your tongue. You may also use a mouthrinse to freshen your breath.
Comfort & Follow-Up
- Sore spots?
This is common as your mouth adjusts. Most sore spots can be resolved with a simple adjustment. Call us to schedule. - Denture starting to feel loose?
Over time, changes in your mouth can affect the fit. We can discuss the option of relining the denture when needed.
