If you have lost all of your teeth or we are unable to save your remaining teeth, Dr. Wilson will likely recommend complete dentures. Complete dentures can be conventional or immediate, depending on the spacing and number of teeth that remain. Conventional complete dentures are made after your teeth have been removed and your gum tissue has begun to heal. After about eight to 12 weeks and about five visits with the Cornerstone team, your conventional complete denture is ready for placement. Immediate complete dentures are made in advance and are placed as soon as the teeth are removed. However, because your bone and gums slowly shrink once the teeth are removed, immediate dentures require more adjustments to fit properly. After some time, you may need a reline as well. It’s best to speak with Dr. Wilson about which denture solution is best for you.
If you still have some of your natural teeth, Dr. Wilson might recommend a partial denture as an option to replace missing teeth. Partial dentures consist of replacement teeth that are attached to a pink orgum-colored plastic base, which is often connected by a metal framework that holds the denture in your mouth. Partial dentures not only fill in the spaces created by missing teeth, but they also prevent other teeth from shifting and changing position.
Most dental insurance providers will cover some or all of the cost of your dentures. However, it is always best to contact your insurance provider to find out the specifics of what they will cover.
