Dental Implants
Dentures are not the only option for replacing missing teeth and helping restore your smile. Typically, dental implants are recommended for replacing missing or badly diseased teeth. Although dentures are a good option for replacing missing teeth, dental implants are the closest thing to a natural tooth and offer more comfort and stability. The Cornerstone Family Dentistry team works very closely with local specialists to provide complete dental implant treatments. Ask Dr. Wilson if dental implants are a good option for you.

A dental implant is a titanium post that acts as a tooth root and is surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath the gum line. This titanium anchor lets your dentist mount replacement teeth or a bridge into that area. Unlike dentures, an implant doesn’t come loose. Dental implants are a safe option for treatment and have been used for several decades. Implants are good options for patients of all ages and help fill out a face that otherwise could look sunken because of missing teeth.
The treatment process for receiving dental implants is typically a three-part process that takes several months. During the first step, the implant is surgically placed into the jaw and covered by your gum. After three to six months, the implant is uncovered and the dentist attached an extension to the implant. Once the gum tissue properly heals, the dentist will make a crown that has the size, shape, color, and fit that will blend with your other teeth. Then the crown is attached to the implant post. Dr. Wilson will work closely with you and an oral surgeon throughout the entire process to ensure that you receive the best treatment possible.
Anyone that has healthy gums and good bone to support an implant is a good candidate for a dental implant. However, it is very important that dental implant patients are committed to good oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist to keep their mouth healthy after treatment. Dr. Wilson and the Cornerstone team can help you decide if dental implants are a good option for you.
